Vaela is a start-up offering beautiful urban cycling wear for women, inspired by the 1881 Rational Dress Society established to champion the rights of women to wear clothes that were suitable, practical and comfortable. Vaela’s principal concern is the design and manufacture of women’s clothing that looks beautiful off the bike and work wonderfully on the bike. I have been commissioned to research and design a small run of sustainable items, the opposite of ‘fast fashion’ – with acute attention to detail from fabric selection to design, functionality and silhouette.
